Developing a Healthy Charter/Troop Relationship

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;” Ephesians 4:2-3, NIV

The Charter/Troop relationship is designed to be a dynamic partnership as the Troop is a ministry of the Charter Organization. Just as believers must be connected to the vine (John 15:5), the Troop must be connected to the Charter Organization. The Charter and Troop have an opportunity to walk alongside one another as they fulfill the mission of building women of integrity.

The Charter Organization is the final decision maker regarding any Troop decision, which means keeping communication regular and clear is key. Both the Charter Organization and the Troop must be intentional in communication by creating a cadence and expectation of regular touch points. This could include: emails, inviting Charter leadership to Troop Board meetings, or sharing AHG happenings with Charter Members. It can also be beneficial to invite Charter leadership to attend award ceremonies and participate in Board of Reviews to stay connected to the impact of the AHG Program.

A practical way to develop a healthy relationship is through prayer and service. The Charter and Troop can share prayer needs with one another and intentionally lead the girls in prayer for those needs. The Troop can also seek out ways to partner through service with the Charter Organization. Through the partnership between the Charter and Troop, Troops thrive with the Charter’s support of prayer, volunteers, and Biblical counsel, and the Troop can fulfill ministry needs within the Charter by ministering to families and building women of integrity.

“The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:8-9, NIV

Cultivating Unity

"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."  Romans 12:4-5, NIV

Just as the body of Christ functions as one, AHG desires for the Troop Ministry Team to function as one body as the Troop fulfills the mission of building women of integrity. The Troop Ministry Team is comprised of the Troop Board, Unit Leaders, and Assistant Unit Leaders. Although the Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders are not part of the Troop Board, they play an integral part in implementing the AHG Program and ministering to girls in the Troop.

For unity to abound, this takes intentional prayer and effort by all Troop Ministry Team members. Here are a few ways your Troop Ministry Team can work towards unity:

  • Regularly pray for and with one another
  • Do a Bible study or devotion together
  • Make a plan on how to best communicate with one another
  • Practice charitable assumption
  • Resolve conflict quickly and gently by having the right conversations with the right people

RightNow Media is AHG's go-to destination for Bible studies and devotionals! AHG Membership includes access to this robust library of inspiring content.

“As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

1 Peter 2:4-5, NIV
